Greatest Match Ever

“You need to go harder!” yelled frustrated Coach Bruce Duffner. “You are better than this and you can beat them!” The situation looked grim for the girl’s volleyball team. Briggs was up 2-0 in the sectional tournament volleyball game and leading in the 3rd game. The Briggs team thought they had it won but it wasn’t over yet. So the West girls went harder then ever before and managed to win the third and fourth game to tie the match. “The girls played like they believed in themselves and the wanted to beat Briggs” Coach Bruce Duffner said. The fifth game was very nerve-racking because the lead went back and forth. Finally, West only needed three more points to win the game and move on to the next round of the tournament. Junior Alyssa Spaulding was up to serve and she hit the ball like a bullet for an ace. Alyssa served again but Briggs returned the ball back to Alyssa. She made a wonderful pass to senior Jessica Hernandez to set the ball to senior Allison Geyer who ripped it to the deep left corner. West only needed one more point for the win. Alyssa served another ace to complete one of the greatest comebacks in school history. After the game the whole team was so happy that they started crying. “It was the best feeling in the world,” said Allison Geyer. The volleyball team had a successful season (12-7) and leave with memories of a great comeback against arch rival Briggs. |
