| The official colors of the National Honor Society are blue and gold, and the Society's motto is "Noblesses Oblige", a French phrase literally meaning nobility obligates. In broader terms, it signifies that those of high rank have the obligation to behave honorably, generously, and responsibly to others. Members of the National Honor society pledge to uphold high standards in academics, leadership, character, and service. | |

Currently, juniors and seniors are invited to apply for membership to the National Honor Society if they have maintained a 3.3 cumulative GPA and have passed all parts of the Ohio Graduation Test(OGT) for juniors and all parts of the OGT or proficiency as seniors. Applicants are asked to list their school and community activities, and are evaluated by the staff of West High School. |
| Once all of this is completed, a faculty selection committee composed of five faculty members votes on whether to offer the student membership in the National Honor Society based on leadership, service, and character. Not all applicants are invited to join the National Honor Society. | |
| Those students who are invited into membership of the National Honor Society are expected to uphold the strong academic, leadership, character, and service traits they exhibited in order to be invited into the National Honor Society. | |
