Program Description

  1. Many colleges have no application fee for online applications. If a student is eligible for free or reduced lunch, I Know I Can College will provide college application fee waivers.
  2. After a student has used all available ACT and/or SAT test fee waivers, I Know I Can will pay for one additional test (either the ACT or the SAT)
  3. Students who have unmet financial need and at least a 2.25 GPA are eligible for "Last Dollar Grants" to help provide the "last dollars" needed by the student after all other sources of financial aid have been exhausted. These grants range from $100-$1000 per year for up to 5 years. (Applications will be available in April. Deadline is July 1)
  4. Financial Aid Workshops for seniors or students who have already graduated are held every February. At these workshops, trained volunteers work one-on-one with students and parents to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) which is required for federal college aid and the I Know I Can Last Dollar Grants.
  5. I Know I Can provides funding (in the form of grants which do not have to be paid back) and transportation to attend summer camps at a variety of colleges and universities. As part of the "Summer Scholars Program", open to grades 7-12, students have the opportunity to go to college campus to participate in educational activities in subject areas related to the student's vocational interests. Some camps may result in the student receiving college credit. (Summer Scholar meetings are held in Feburary. Generally, students who have a GPA of 2.5 or greater are invited to attend these meetings.)
